Purcell Miller Tritton was appointed to advise on re-ordering the interior of the church and prepare proposals for a new Parochial

Church Centre to the north side of St. Mary's Church, which lies near to Selby town centre. The church dates from the mid 1860s and is listed Grade II.

A number of schemes had previously been prepared by others but had failed to receive Planning Permission or Listed Building Consent. Plans for this extension were developed to reflect the church's forward thinking approach to its community's position and a set of contemporary design proposals was approved by the church's Project Group and the Leeds Diocese Historic Churches Committee.

The design echoes the large number of pitches of the various existing slate roofs and the colours of the stone and provide parish facilities, including a large function room, kitchen, toilets, store and office. The centre is planned in a 'cloister' layout, accessible via a glazed corridor link with the existing north aisle of the church. The new L-shaped building is finished with a zinc roof and predominately rendered walls, but the corridor wall panels and windows are constructed of planked oak. Plinths and string courses are of North Yorkshire sandstone. Finishes internally are mainly painted plaster with large ceramic tiles covering the main access corridor. The building was completed in 2004 and provides a much needed and highly cherished addition for the congregation.
