Project Refurbishment of Grade I Listed Warehouses
Location West India Dock, London
Services Refurbishment and Adaptation into Museum

The project was commissioned by the Museum of London and the London Docklands Development Corporation to refurbish the three remaining bays of the now redundant Grade I Listed West India Dock Warehouses. The site is opposite Canary Wharf in the heart of London’s Dockland.

Purcell Miller Tritton was responsible for all of the repairs and new interventions that make up the fabric of the new Museum. The museum will house the Museum of London’s collection of Docklands artifacts to tell ‘The Story of the Docks’. The refurbished building itself also contributes significantly to the exhibition and elements from the building’s own past, such as winches and hydraulic jiggers, have been reinstated. New facilities include a ground floor restaurant and retail facilities, first floor library and archive facilities and a third floor auditorium. The basement houses classrooms and education facilities.
