Nottingham City Council's Natural History Museum is housed in the elegant Grade I listed Tudor mansion Wollaton Hall. Michael Morrison has been advising on planning issues and various funding approaches from the earliest discussions about the major renovation programme which is now underway.
In addition to essential external repairs to the stonework, the '4.5 million first phase of the renovations includes installing a lift to allow full public access to the upper floors, creating a new caf' and improvements to the visitor facilities. It will also see the complete renovation of the Smythson Prospect Room with its magnificent views over the historic deer park.
In a separate '1.2 million project, the Camellia House, an intricate 1820s cast iron glass house in the Hall's grounds, has been completely dismantled and is being repaired before being re-assembled. The renovated structure will incorporate a very lightweight EFTE over-roof to give greater protection to the fragile structure.
