Leading architects and historic building consultants, Purcell Miller Tritton has appointed James Sanderson to head up its Liverpool office. A specialist in historical buildings and conservation work, James is also the architect for Blackburn Cathedral. Purcell Miller Tritton’s Liverpool office currently employs ten people and James is looking to expand the team to 15 over the next 18 months.

Commenting on his plans, James said, “Along with Purcell Miller Tritton’s offices in the northern counties, York and Sheffield, we want to to become the leading force for design and architecture within sensitive environments. Liverpool will be European Capital of Culture in 2008 and there are a huge number of sites for development, historic buildings and conservation areas in the region where we can bring our skills to bear.”

Currently Purcell Miller Tritton’s Liverpool team is working on the £38m restoration of St George’s Hall, which will be the city’s centrepiece during the 2008 Capital of Culture celebrations. In addition, the firm has also just been appointed to carry out a £5m restoration, financed by the Heritage Lottery Fund, of the Florence Institute, known locally as ‘the Florrie’, which was the first secular boys’ club, established in 1890.
