Thursday, 19th July 2007

Purcell Miller Tritton, the leading UK architect and historic buildings consultant, and Arup, the global design and business consulting firm, have come together to sponsor an exclusive first night preview of Shakespeare’s ‘As You Like It’ at the recently restored Kirkstall Abbey, Leeds.

On Monday 23rd July, reputedly the Bard’s finest romantic comedy will be performed within the Abbey’s cloisters by a cast of sixteen of Britain’s finest Shakespearian actors, from the British Shakespeare Company. All proceeds from the event will be donated to WaterAid, the charity providing clean, safe water, sanitation and hygiene education to the parts of the World that need it most.

Kirkstall Abbey is regarded as one of the best preserved abbeys in Britain and Purcell Miller Tritton has recently completed the £3.5 million restoration of the building and grounds. Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and English Heritage, the long-term programme of repairs will ensure the Abbey remains intact for the benefit of future generations.

Mark Goldspink, Chief Executive of Purcell Miller Tritton said, “We are extremely proud to be sponsoring this event, as its proceeds are being donated to such a vital cause. We are also very proud to have played such an integral role in the restoration of the Abbey.”
